The Cagnz concept: mutual aid through fundraisers

Cagnz is a platform for solidarity fundraisers. Anyone can start one for a project of their own, and anyone can give to other people's, from €0.50. The idea: starting your fundraiser should also help someone else.

Our mission: make mutual aid easy

A project you cannot fund alone becomes possible when many people each give a little. Cagnz aims to make that simple, transparent and open to everyone, including people who struggle to raise a sum on their own. We also intend to welcome non-profit associations that want to raise money for their work.

One fundraiser published supports another

To publish a public fundraiser, its creator pays at least €2. That amount does not go to their own fundraiser. After Stripe's payment fees and Cagnz's share (10% of the amount paid), the rest is sent automatically to another active fundraiser, picked at random among those that can still receive money. Every new publication moves an existing fundraiser forward.

The recipient sees the amount it really receives, not the amount that was paid. A worked breakdown is on the French page Frais.

Why we chose this

  • Mutual aid first. Whoever starts a project begins by giving another project a boost.
  • The same rule for everyone. The recipient is drawn at random, with no favourites: any active, eligible fundraiser can be picked, small or large.
  • A living community. Fundraisers do not sit alone: each publication helps another one.

Small amounts add up

A gift of a few euros feels modest. Together, many gifts can fund a project: that is the principle of a fundraiser. Cagnz does not promise that a fundraiser will reach its goal or that a project will succeed. That depends on people's generosity and on how the creator shares their page.

As a purely illustrative example: 1,000 people each giving the price of a coffee (€2) raise €2,000. Nothing guarantees that a fundraiser finds that many contributors.

What the concept is not

  • It is not a game or a lottery: chance only picks the fundraiser that receives, never a winner among those who pay.
  • It is not an investment: what you pay to publish is not refunded and earns you nothing. That is what makes the mutual aid work.
  • It is not social welfare: Cagnz does not check creators' financial situation. Every public fundraiser is reviewed before publication, and you can report one that looks suspicious.
